James B. Lansing Sound Inc. was established in 1946. Firstly they were known as Lansing Sound Incorporated. The sole founders of this company were Chester L. Noble, James B. Lansing and Chauncey Snow. Afterwards by an agreement with George Carrington, Lansing Sound, Incorporated, changed its name to James B. Lansing Sound, Incorporated. Soon Lansing developed a series of components that enabled it to put together a virtual copy of the original Iconic system. These include a small multi-cellular horn, a high-frequency driver and fifteen-inch theater-type woofer. The driver still exists in the catalog of JBL and known as D175.

Using four-inch coil for frequency transducers, the company introduced its first loudspeaker D130 in 1947 with that the D101 discontinued. During the first three years James B. Lansing Sound, Incorporated made no profit at all; it hardly stayed afloat. Over the short span of three years, the company occupied four locations, and that had an impact on production efficiencies. During the late forties and early fifties, the value of the name Lansing as a trade identification was exceptionally high. Up to 1955, James B. Lansing Sound Company sold loudspeakers with the recognition "Jim Lansing Signature Sound" inscribed courageously on the pot structures.
